There was a time when Internet marketing didn't matter. All you needed to have a successful business was your name in the phonebook and an ad in the newspaper. Times have changed. Not only do customers expect all brick-and-mortar businesses to have a website, but now you can make a fortune with a business that's entirely online, no storefront necessary. If you want to expand your business and get more customers, the Internet is the place you need to be.

Like traditional marketing, Internet marketing is about finding people who are genuinely interested in or need your product or service, and for whom your product or service solves their problem or desire. It's no different than walking into a room of people and asking, "Who's hungry?" The people who raise their hands are interested in what you might offer. If you could give them food or tell them where they could find it, you just filled their need.

How does Internet marketing help you?

Internet marketing takes your business to the next level. It helps you…
  • Reach people anywhere in the world. Internet marketing helps you reach a global audience inexpensively. As long as someone has Internet access, they can find you. All you need is a domain name, a web host, and a website. It can cost you less than $100 a year.
  • Get better visitors to your website. Internet marketing increases the traffic to your business' website, adds potential customers and increases the number of quality leads you have. Basically, it makes your business better.
  • Make your website work for you. Internet marketing tools can do everything from finding the place on your website that gets the most traffic to making sure you have the top rank on Google. They can even let you know if one of the pages on your website isn't working right. They do all the work so you don't have to.
  • Be able to "upsell" customers. Whenever your customers are making a purchase, you can offer them more expensive add-ons or upgrades to get them to spend more money. This is McDonald's "Would you like fries with that? And anything to drink?" After your customers tell you what they want, you ask them if they would like one more thing…and one more too.
What does Internet marketing Involve?

Internet marketing can include a number of strategies, such as:
  • Website. This is the most critical component of Internet marketing because today people expect all businesses to have a website. Your website tells people about you and what products or services you offer. Everything from how it looks to how it works should be a part of your Internet marketing strategy.
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO). This is about getting your ranking to the very top of the page in search engines. The closer you are to the top, the more traffic your site will get…and the more money you can make.
  • Email Marketing. Email marketing is the equivalent of mailing someone a flyer or a brochure through the mail, except you're doing it through email.
  • Text and Banner Advertising. This is placing ads for your business on a website. It's similar to placing ads in newspapers or magazines.
  • Online Press Release. Whenever you have a story about your company, your employees, and/or your products or services, you can give it to an online wire service.
  • Social Media Marketing. This involves communicating with your customers through social networks like Twitter and Facebook.
Internet marketing allows you to stay in touch with your customers 24/7. Whether your customers are finding out what time you open or making purchases online, Internet marketing gives you the ability to make money while you sleep. It doesn't matter whether you're an affiliate marketer, a stay-at-home-mom, or a corporate executive…Internet marketing will put more money in your pocket.

While creating customer facing content is important to your internet marketing efforts, it's not a panacea. You shouldn't just be developing content because someone on a blog told you to. You can use the word 'you' a lot - but at the end of the day - if sincerity is lacking in the tone of the content, customers will be turned off. It's one thing to say the right things. It's another thing for customers to believe you're saying the right thing.
Long story, short: Valuable content is values-driven. Write about what you believe in because you believe in it - not because you think it's something you should be saying.

It's not just about believing it, it's about doing it.

Great content helps people do things, solve problems, meet goals, etc. But do you know what else it says? It says a lot about how you do business. It says that you are a giver. It says that the customer is important. It says that you're willing to change, evolve and adapt to meet their needs. If your actions don't reflect the tone you set in your communications, the consequences could be serious. It's not about rushing people in the door and making tons of money. It's about creating value in your business by cultivating long term, genuine relationships. The way you do business should be reflected in your content. It's an essential part of your branding.

Being genuine means more than you'll know.

Insincere content sticks out like a sore thumb. We've all read "The top 10 reasons to do " posts. We've all read "How to rocket your profits"... Basically, we know when we're being sold. Direct sales copy is customer facing, but it's also hugely distinguishable and easy to tell you're being sold a bill of goods. People are becoming increasingly skeptical of this kind of prose and are beginning to tune it out. Sure, it's well written, sure it addresses pain points and all the other good fundamental rules of making the sale. But it's beginning to fail because it lacks sincerity. People crave authenticity in their relationships more and more these days and the more sales-driven your content becomes, the less likely they are to think that you're on their side. Don't relentlessly sell to people. Listen, dialogue, provoke conversation, and ask questions. Inclusion in today' digitally driven world can be the best marketing strategies you can employ.

Good content isn't about giving answers. It's about creating conversations.

Remember the old saying '"it's about the journey, not the destination?" More often than not, that's exactly what is at the heart of good content. While it's great to divulge secrets and provide answers where you can, the copy that will resonate the most with your readers is that which provokes conversation, encourages dialogue and requires participation.
Customer-facing content is important, but making it effective goes well beyond writing about what they want to hear. Tone, disposition, intent and action mean a lot and are important marketing tactics. Be genuine, be sincere and most of all, be yourself.

Once upon a time you could entice people to sign up for your newsletter without offering any type of offer. All it took was your great content and you were well on your way to a captive audience. But an email address is "online currency" and the best way to encourage your prospects to offer you theirs is to provide them something they really want.
How do you do it? You need a Fabulous Free Offer.
I'm often asked two questions, "How do I know what to offer?" and "What should I offer?".
To answer the first, you must know what will trigger your client to buy. What is the main problem they have that you know you can solve? Once you know what that is, you need to have a Call to Action such as an Opt In and Sign Up box on your website to capture their name and email in exchange for your wonderful offer to solve their problem.

"But what exactly should I give and how much information should it include?"
There are a variety of ways you can serve your prospects so they can get to know you and see if they like what you offer. But before you do that you must first, have a gripping Call to Action for a title of your offer. I often recommend doing some research, go to a variety of sites, check out their free offers and see how you can model them for your giveaway. Chances are that if the Call to Action is good enough for you it will be good enough for your prospects too. Then simply twist it into your own words to match what you will offer.
With regard to what to offer, here are 12 ideas to get you started:
1. A 2-5 page report on a relevant topic in your field-usually a hot topic
2. A checklist
3. A teleseminar of a program you once offered
4. A Video Series of "How tos"
5. A "Top 10" Recommendations lis
6. A compilation of 5 of your best blog posts
7. An audio recording/Mp3 of "How to" tips
8. A workbook
9. A multi part eCourse
10. An assessment
11. A discount for one of your products
12. An Mp3 or recording of you being interviewed-send a CD to up the juicy offer
Assignment:
If you don't currently have a Fabulous Free Offer or the one you have is getting low opt in's then take a look at what you have now and see how you can enhance it. Don't be afraid to spice it up. Make the title attractive, the content good and don't forget to include a Call to Action (how they can learn more about you), within the offer.

It recently occured to me that I was missing out on attracting customers to my site because a majority of searchers are looking for business marketing, regardless if they operate a cafe, coffee shop or restaurant style business. They are generically typing in business rather than cafe or coffee shop, which is a huge problem because I haven't optimised my site for that target audience. So my post today is to help you with your online marketing strategy, and to help me attract those customers looking for 'business marketing' strategies that own cafes, coffee shops and takeaways.
When is the last time you looked at your business from a different angle? For example my business totally relates to cafe marketing (and associated business types). Yes it is specific to that, however, how many of my potential customers are actually looking for this type of information, but searching for it under a different set of keywords, therefore, they are not able to find me :(

How many of your potential customers are searching for your business using keywords you are familiar with, but they are not? For example: you know the name of your cafe, but do they, could they spell it wrong?
What else could they get wrong or be using to locate your business? What if you are missing out of hundreds of new visitors every month because you have not setup your online marketing to meet their needs or included it in any local Google searches.
If you found this page today through Google, did you search for 'business marketing' or 'cafe marketing'.
So your task today is to go and do some research.
Open a blank Google search page and do a search for some of things that may not be so obvious to your customers. Even something like the brand name of the coffee and location could have significant impact (ie. Vivo Albion = Sweet Delicious = perfect match) but there could be other cafes in Albion selling the same coffee brand but because Sweet Delicious is at the top of the listing it is obvious for choice.
Take a look at your competitor websites, what have they got on their site that you could use in your keywords. Then start optimising your website with those keywords. I have done this with my site by including cafe marketing, coffee shop marketing, business marketing, marketing strategy and heaps more that are relevant keywords.
Help your potential customers find you.

Have you ever wondered what sets good companies apart from great ones?  There is a key that isn't as easy to find as we all would like but, nevertheless, it's there to be found.  You see business is all about differences.  If you are the same or try to fit in with other businesses you can never have a great business.  Your business will just be a commodity that everyone will try to get the lowest price on every time.

If you don't give your prospective patients any other reason to choose you other than price, than you can't expect them to "hunt" for a reason.  Or figure out that you are a better surgeon than the cheap discount doc in Costa Rica.

The problem is that all consumers, including your prospective patients, want to turn everything into a commodity like buying beans at the supermarket.  Just look for the lowest price then there is no thinking required.  People do not want to think…but they will if they think it will help them avoid pain.  In your case, the pain of making a bad decision and not getting the results they wanted or could have gotten.

So how do we differentiate ourselves from the rabble?  You must have a compelling USP (Unique Selling Proposition).  What is that you say?  It's the reason that prospective patients should choose you when compared to all other options available to them.

This is not easy.  It will take some thought and research of your competition, but the return on your time invested will be astronomical.

Just think about Dominoes Pizza when it first started growing like a weed (which is an interesting comparison since "weed" also helped Dominoes grow because of their late hours and close proximity to college dorms…)  Tom Monaghan caused this growth with the best USP in his business, "Fresh, Hot Pizza Delivered In 30 Minutes Or It's Free."  His USP was made possible by limiting his delivery radius of each store to make it easy for his employees to achieve.

Here's a list to consider when thinking up your USP:
  1. What awards have you received?
  2. How many of each type of procedure have you performed?
  3. Do you have equipment no other Doctor in your state has?
  4. Can you create a unique experience that no other competitor has for your patients?
  5. What treatments can you package together that no one else is?
  6. What local celebrities can you get to endorse your practice?
And the list goes on and on.  The point is to be unique.  Snooki is not making more money than the other girls on the Jersey Shore because she's so incredibly gifted or talented or even smart…because she's definitely none of those.  She's making money because she is so different and controversial.

As my wife's due date draws ever closer, we have been looking for hospitals to deliver in and I shake my head because few have any answers for me when I ask why we should use their hospital.  There was one hospital that posts their ER wait time on the freeway billboards which is a decent USP.

But what sold my wife was one that provided a jetted tub.  No other hospital provided such a nice tub.  Now just think of all the pregnant women that would line up to have their babies at this hospital if they just advertised that one fact…I just shake my head.

Remember, business is no place to be the same…unless you have no interest in staying in business.

Hey... it makes sense, just get your recruits to make a lot of sales, and you can sit back and collect a lot of money. However... it really does require a lot of work to do well, and you need ot have a solid plan. What follows now are some methods that have been used by others to achieve success with MLM.

Painful fact: You need to spend some money in business. There are various business-related expenses, however we'll say that you should not have to pay a business just to be able to promote it. Be prepared to pay for marketing/advertising related expenses and office supplies for admin tasks. However, if you're doing business on the net, usually a lot of costs are much cheaper. Ok, it's always best to at least have some awareness of what will come down the road. You may want to put some funding aside now for later when these expenses occur.

Always approach this business as being a serious and real business. You will operate more efficiently if you take the time to clearly organize a plan for your marketing and other business matters. Also create and write down your goals because this will help you to stay focused. Hold yourself to your deadlines, and make your goals achievable and realistic. Don't let your efforts fall behind because it can easily become habitual, and that will only slow you, or kill your business. You will not get to where you want to be unless you're willing to work hard at it.

The best practice with your associates is to be honest with them about everything. Don't promise them megabucks right out of the gate. Best to be upfront right from the start, let them know they'll be expected to put in a good effort and work to make money, etc. If you promise them high dollar amounts too soon they will get discouraged and quit. It's doubtful that you want to become a professional recruiter because you're always filling in the gaps after people quit. So it's really good to be totally open and honest with prospects. And your downline will appreciate you even more. If you're new to business, it all can seem a little bit intimidating. It's possible you got involved because you heard you could make money quickly and easily. But now maybe you understand that this requires a solid work ethic. Multi level marketing is, at its core, a business just like every other internet marketing venture you've taken on. But you can do these things the right way and begin earning the money you thought you would.

If you have done even a little reading on Home Business thus far, you know it involves so many people, everywhere. It is completely normal for all of us to just go along with life until problems begin to arise, and then we take notice.

Probably the best defense against such situation is paying attention to your thoughts and keeping your eyes wide open. The interesting thing about us humans is we usually do not pay a lot of attention to prevention. Have you not ever noticed that about people or even your self? It does seem to be very prevalent in our opinion. If you can put things in place that will help you, then that is smart; and we mean becoming more aware about it.

Your success will be helped a great deal if you have the attitude that's is a legitimate and real business. Never treat this as a hobby. This is not something you just "squeeze in" when you can despite what others may believe. You'll have a hard time achieving the success you want if you treat it as some hobby. Everything is different when you're serious; you'll learn more and know more about how to market yourself and your business. You can distinguish yourself from the crowd by being willing to work hard and smart, and success will usually follow.

You know there will be those who cannot be motivated, so don't waste any time with them. Here's a typical scenario: people are excited, they sign-up, they see how hard it is, they stop/leave.

Some people simply think they can cruise along and let others do the work for them. Do not waste your time with these people. If someone on your down line is consistently slacking off, cut them loose. People who want to succeed will be motivated and be willing to do work.
It's really best to be sincere and open with the people you recruit. Avoid the 'high dollar' earnings hype for others. Let them know very simply and clearly that they have to put the work in if they ever hope to get anywhere. People can easily become discouraged if the goals or expectations are artificially high. You do not want to be spending all your time looking for replacements in your downline. That's why you always want to be completely straight about everything. Your recruits will actually work harder for you if they know you're totally open with them. Some people feel a bit timid when they first get started. Perhaps you did this because you thought the money would come rolling in. But as you know, it takes time and a lot of work. MLM really is exactly like other businesses that require work. If you're willing to do what you need to do, those promises you heard in the beginning can come to pass.

There are any number of things that can cause unique challenges any time you are trying to learn more about Home Business or anything else. There has really never been a lack of content, or information, and the web has only just made it more readily available plus encouraging people to produce more. The more something becomes subjective, or reliant on interpretation, that is when you will see conflict. These tips are something that almost demand that your information and sources be authoritative.

Everyone wants to and needs to have solid information, and so then you just have to do what is necessary when you need to know the truth.
